Workwear Jacket - 4 sessions
Merchant and Mills has designed a number of workwear inspired jackets that we love. In this workshop you can choose 1 of four patterns to create your own jacket. In order of difficulty:
- Paynter Jacket: Advanced. The Field jacket has two chest flap pockets. Two waist flap pockets with side entry. Storm shield button panel. Tapered sleeves with elbow patches. Double button cuffs with pointed tabs. Unstructured collar. Many layers of fabric (9 layers at some points).
- Ottoline: Advanced. Sideseam and cuff vents elevate this jacket but also make it a bit trickier. Designed with an interior breast pocket but can be stitched on the exterior. Lots of top stitching!
- Foreman: intermediate. An unlined utilitarian jacket with patchpockets and two piece sleeves.
- Sanda Coat/Jacket: Intermediate. Rolled collar, turned back cuff, with optional pockets.
Limited to 4 students (16 yrs of age or older); 2 students are required for class to meet. If a class is cancelled due to low enrollment, you will receive a full refund.
- Level: intermediate/advanced. This is not your first garment and we hope it won't be your last! But this workshop will focus on successful topstitching, buttonholes, collars, vents and finesse.
- We provide: the expertise, tools, and machines.
- You bring: yourself, a copy of the pattern you want to use that you have traced (if you are grading between sizes please start with the larger measurement - unless you plan on cropping the jacket you'll want to look at the finished hip measurement) - tracing the pattern is only necessary if you are working from a tissue pattern, if you have a copy shop print out you can cut directly from the paper. You should work on your vest/jacket between sessions so please bring your thread and a bobbin to class. Don't forget that we offer 15% off supplies purchased for class.
- Class length: 2 1/2 hours per session for a total of 10 hours
Class meets Sundays, February 8, 15, 22, and March 1 at 3 PM.
